On 18/10/12 we presented our pitch to our class to get feedback on our ideas for our concept, locations, mise-en-scene and shot ideas. This was our pitch:
- After presenting our pitch, we received feedback from the rest of our classmates on what they thought was good and what we could change or consider.
- We were told that our ideas of slow motion shots shown throughout the video were good and that we should come up with more of these ideas to create a theme throughout the video. We already had the idea of showing a glass being thrown and smashing against a wall and a leaf falling from the tree, so we will consider some more ideas we can include.
- We were also told that our ideas were conventional of Bloc Party. When doing research, we looked at costumes often used in Bloc Party videos and focused on their band image. We are planning to replicate their image in the performance section of their video. We were told that looking at costumes and shot ideas commonly used in Bloc Party videos was good and that our idea for both concept and mise-en-scene were conventional of the band.
- We discussed how we were going to film our shots in the drama studio and what we would have as a background. We were warned that we would have to be careful to frame the performance shots in a way that would make it look professional as it would be easy to show the areas of the background we didn't want to include in our shots.
- We were advised to choose a new location for the couple’s argument as it didn't make sense to have part of the narrative in the performance location. However, when looking at Bloc Party’s music videos in the research stage, we found that this is often the case, for example, their most recent music video, Octopus, shows the band performing while a disjunctive narrative takes place in the same location. We will, however consider changing this location to something more conventional. Another idea was to use the green screen to change place the characters in an outdoor location.
- For our scenes in The Pantiles, we have considered the time of day we film there so that it is not crowded and how we will film the shots to prevent unwanted people from being in our video. We were also told to think about the shops and cafes that might be in the background of the shots and, as we would not want them in our shot, how we would prevent them from being in our shots.
- As we have chosen a fairly conventional narrative for our music video, we were told to work out exactly what would happen in each location to fill up the song. We will do this by looking at similar music videos and thinking about our locations to work out what will be happening at each point in the song and at each location. We were also given the idea of using cross dissolves or another transition between the flashback shots to create a contrasting feel to the performance and current day narrative.
